Assessment of mental health status among high school students in an urban area – a cross-sectional study

Title: Assessment of mental health status among high school students in an urban area – a cross-sectional study
Authors: REG. NO.:BD0122010
Abstract: Background:
Health is multi-dimensional. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity”. Good mental health is the ability to respond to the many varied experiences of life with flexibility and sense of purpose. Mental well-being is one of the most important aspects for leading a healthy and peaceful life, but less importance has been given to that aspect of health compared to physical health. Mental health problems commonly begin during childhood and adolescence leading to serious mental illness in adult age. There are about 1.3 billion adolescents accounting for 16% of world’s population. It is the period of transition from dependent child to independent adult and also various physical and hormonal changes takes place. According to WHO, in 2019 one in every eight adolescents (12.5%) suffer from mental disorder and major mental illness like Depression (3.9%), Anxiety (8.2%), Conduct (6%) and Behavioural problems (5.5%). There is 13% increase in the mental health problems and substance use in the last decade and it keeps increasing with each decade in the world. Adolescents with mental disorder are particularly vulnerable to social exclusions, discrimination, stigma, educational difficulties, risk taking behaviour and human rights violation. India being a country with most adolescents accounting for 253 million (19.5% of population) of which many of them suffer from some sort of psychiatric problems, but yet under diagnosed due to social stigma and ignorance by parents, teachers and fellow mates. So, assessing the mental status of the students in their early life can lead to early diagnosis, thus helping them to have a healthy and peaceful life. Only few studies and data are available in this age group which may be due to less concentration on adolescents over the adult population.
viii
So, this study has been planned to assess the mental health status of adolescents and identify those who are more prone for developing psychiatric problems. Based on our study findings specific interventions will be planned for prevention, so that the adolescents are made strong enough to handle the mental health issues in a better way.
Objectives:
1. To assess the mental health status among high school students of an urban area
2. To study the factors influencing the mental health

Prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among dental practitioners in belagavi city

Title: Prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among dental practitioners in belagavi city
Authors: REG.NO.:BD0122009
Abstract: Background:
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) represent a major occupational health issue for dental professionals, primarily caused by prolonged static postures, repetitive movements, and poor ergonomic conditions. While existing global research demonstrates high prevalence rates, there remains a lack of localized data from regions like Belagavi, India.
Objective:
1.To determine the prevalence of Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders among dental practitioners in Belagavi City.
2. To assess the socio-demographic and occupational factors associated with Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders.

Perception of body image and self esteem among female college students in an urban area - a cross sectional study

Title: Perception of body image and self esteem among female college students in an urban area - a cross sectional study
Authors: REG.NO.:BD0122008
Abstract: Introduction:
Body image is the way one thinks and feels about his/her physical appearance. Body image concern, which was considered to be a problem of the developed and western countries is also noted
in developing countries due to westernization, media influences and many other factors. Young
women due to the hormonal changes associated with puberty, also experience changes in the body
shape and are likely to face peer, family or media pressure which may lead to a negative perception of their own body. Such dissatisfaction with one’s own body may affect their self esteem. It is vital
that one has to feel happy about oneself in order to give the best academic and overall performance in any front.
There is a limited literature in India regarding body image problems prevalent among the
young women and this study aims to fill the gaps related to the understanding of body image perception and its association with low self esteem, by using standardized tools and also looks into the Body Mass Index and the other factors associated with body image.
Objectives:
1.To study the association between Perception of Body image and self esteem among female college students in an urban area.
2.To assess the body image and its association with Body Mass Index among them

Knowledge, attitude and Practices regarding voluntary Blood donation among Engineering students in belagavi.

Title: Knowledge, attitude and Practices regarding voluntary Blood donation among Engineering students in belagavi.
Authors: REG.NO.:BD0122007
Abstract: Background: Human blood and blood products are vital, unique, life saving
components, capable of saving millions of life, if ready availability is ensured. In
India, the demand for blood outweighs its supply, requiring more Voluntary Blood
Donation (VBD.) In addition to limited supply of blood, the issue of safe blood exists
in the developing countries. Blood procured from Voluntary Non-renumerated donors
is the safest source of blood. In South East Asia, the estimated blood requirement is
18 million units per year and the annual collection is about 9.4 million units, which
leaves a gap of 6 million units. One of the potential sources for VBD can be recruited
from the young college going students who are healthy and fit to donate blood
voluntarily. To inspire the young college students to fill the demand and supply gap
for safe blood and blood components, understanding the attitude of young people
towards blood donation is crucial.
Not many studies on Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) regarding
VBD have been done among engineering students.
Hence this study is undertaken to assess KAP regarding VBD among
engineering students in Belagavi. And to study the factors influencing voluntary blood
donation among the study population.
Objectives: 1. To Assess Knowledge, Attitude and Practices regarding Voluntary
Blood Donation among Engineering Students in Belagavi.
viii
2. To study the factors influencing Voluntary Blood Donation among the study
population
