Abstract: ABSTRACT Introduction: Laparotomy is one of the most common surgical procedures done in a routine surgical practice. By definition, the word laparotomy describes exploration of the abdomen and to continue further according to the cause identified. Postoperative pulmonary complication (PPC) includes virtually any complication affecting the respiratory system after anesthesia and surgery. Postoperative pulmonary complications can be considered as a measurement of a complex outcome. Since there are only a few studies in literature regarding the post-operative lung complication following emergency laparotomy in our country, our study aims to estimate the postoperative pulmonary complications following emergency laparotomy for acute abdominal conditions. Considering that demographic and clinical characteristics of patients as well as preoperative diagnoses and surgical strategies adopted in emergency situations are expected to be quite diverse from those in elective surgery.
