Abstract: INTRODUCTION Since the advent of MRI, it has become the modality of choice for diagnosis of CNS infections. However, its role was limited to the morphological evaluation of the brain. With MR spectroscopy, it is possible to get an insight to the metabolic composition of the lesion. Spectroscopy is currently used in diagnosis of CNS infections, CNS neoplasms and various metabolic disorders. MR spectroscopy can point to a specific etiology of CNS infection which can reduce the need of unnecessary procedures and treatments and can lead to early diagnosis and initiation of early treatment. OBJECTIVES: 1. Assess the diagnostic value and accuracy of magnetic resonance spectroscopy for differentiating various central nervous system infections 2. Correlation of metabolic peaks and ratios obtained via magnetic resonance spectroscopy with various central nervous system infections and assessing their diagnostic value
