Abstract: Background: Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) is a multifactorial clinical entity, mostly caused by viruses. The etiology in a major number of AES cases still remains unclear. The season and geographical location seem to have an influence regarding the causative agents of AES, which predominantly affects pediatric age groups below 15 years. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) evaluation of the brain with the utilization of its basic and special MRI sequences gives a comprehensive understanding of various etiologies of AES. Hence, the present study was done to estimate the yield of MRI in patients suspected to have AES and to compare of various MRI sequences in AES patients.
