Abstract: BACKGROUND: Desha is one of the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, which refers to the geo-ecological region or habitat.1 The predominant DOSHA at the time of conception decides the Prakriti (body constitutions).2 It is also determined and influenced by the specific Bhumi desha of an individual 2 and forms one among the major factors to be examined (Parikshabhavas) for diagnosing as well as treating disease.3,4,5 The specific type of Bhumi desha attributes the specific type of geo-climatic conditions. The predominance of Dosha of specific Bhumi desha influences Prakriti and becomes a risk factor in the manifestation of the particular disease.6 Therefore each specific Prakriti tends to follow certain lifestyle activities to maintain the predominant Dosha in its natural balance and prevent the disease. Hence, Bhumi desha plays a major role in determining the Prakriti (health and disease) of an individual. Since the geo-ecological parameters explained in the Ayurvedic classics for each Bhumi desha are very much broad and is not dealt with anywhere and even it is not used in present practice, there is a need for proper identification and mapping of the regions (land or place) into a different Bhumi desha and for assessment of the dominant of Prakriti of different types of Bhumi desha. Hence the present study has been undertaken as ‘Determining Geo-Ecological Parameters for Designing Desha Wise Map of Belgaum District and Assessment of Desha Wise Prakriti Predominance - A Cross Sectional Study’ xii OBJECTIVES: · Development of geo- ecological parameters for demarking different Bhumi Desha. · Designing Desha wise map of Belagavi District. · To study Deha Prakriti predominance in different Bhumi desha of Belagavi District
