| dc.description.abstract | Background and Objectives: Forensic anthropology involves the application of the knowledge and techniques of physical or biological anthropology to medicolegal processes. When skeletal remains and maimed or disfigured body parts are retrieved from crime scenes or areas of natural disasters, it is the responsibility of a forensic anthropologist to evaluate the evidence and determine the biological profile of the deceased. Gender determination is the categorization of an individual as male or female. A person’s gender is determined by evaluating the biological traits of his or her skeletal system, which differ among the genders as they are function-dependent. Radiological examination of skeletal remains is commonly employed in forensic anthropology as it is an easy, fast, and non-invasive means for obtaining essential data without destroying evidence. Computed Tomography (CT) permits accurate skeletal measurements for gender determination by providing precise and clear images with high resolution and minimal superimposition. The present study was conducted to assess the reliability of the morphometric evaluation of the mandibular Computed Tomography (CT) scans in determining the gender of an individual in the given population. | en_US |
