| Abstract: | “DETECTION OF HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS INFECTION IN CASES OF ORAL CARCINOMA USING p16 IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY” Introduction- Oral cancer is a major worldwide health issue with high prevalence and fatality rates throughout the world. It is the 6 th most prevalent cancer worldwide. Oral squamous cell carcinoma accounts for 40-50% of all malignancies in India. The primary known risk factor for oral cancer includes tobacco and alcohol consumption. Recently Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection of high risk type has become evident and is linked to the development of oral cancers etiologically. Objectives- To detect human papilloma virus infection in cases of oral carcinoma using p16 immunohistochemistry and to determine the association of human papilloma virus with the histological grading of oral carcinoma using p16 immunohistochemistry. |
