Abstract: AIM: To detect the prevalence of hyperuricemia in Indian RA patients and to assess the correlation between serum uric acid levels and disease activity scores. BACKGROUND: RA is a chronic inflammatory illness with the potential to cause significant disability and death. RA and hyperuricemia were thought to seldom coexist in the past, possibly due to immunosuppressive effect via potent antioxidant properties. A wide range of results have been observed in prior research linking blood uric acid levels to the severity of RA disease, challenging the long-held belief that hyperuricemia and RA are mutually exclusive diseases.
