Abstract: ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Periodontitis is a complex, multifactorial, polymicrobial infection is characterized by the deterioration of the supportive tissues surrounding the teeth. Amongst the microbiota, Porphyromonas gingivalis, identified as a keystone pathogen, has been strongly implicated in the etiology of chronic periodontitis. AIM: Identification of Porphyromonas gingivalis in periodontally healthy adults and chronic periodontitis patients using polymerase chain reaction.
