A study of blood urea nitrogen and Serum albumin ratio in patients of Pneumonia at a tertiary care hospital, Belagavi

Abstract

Abstract This study evaluates the prognostic significance of the Blood Urea Nitrogen to Serum Albumin Ratio (BAR) in patients with pneumonia admitted to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Conducted as a single-center, cross-sectional study in a tertiary care hospital, the research assessed the relationship between BAR and ICU admission, ventilatory support, and mortality. A total of 100 patients meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed. The results indicate that elevated BAR is significantly associated with ICU admission, increased need for inotropic support, and higher mortality. The study concludes that BAR is a simple yet effective biomarker for predicting disease severity and outcomes in pneumonia patients.
