Abstract: ABSTRACT Background Lung cancer is reported very commonly in all the diagnosed human cancer types with the highest death rate. It is treated with surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy but it has many adverse effects, toxicity, drug resistance and disease recurrence. Many effective anticancer drugs are used in the treatment but there is a need to improve the therapeutic potential of existing and development of new anticancer drugs. Phytoconstituents are effective and have fewer side effects than synthetic chemotherapeutic drugs, many are present in clinical trials and report improved therapeutic efficacy in their nanoformulations. Flavonoid is a class of phytoconstituents that have reported prominent anticancer property but possess solubility problem. A flavonoid fisetin was selected for lung anticancer study as it reports promising activity and prepared its cubosomal nanoformulation for improving solubility. Cubosomal nanoformulation is a stabilized liquid dispersion of crystalline cubic nanoparticles of an amphiphilic lipid glyceryl monooleate. Cubosomes have high drug loading capacity, site-specific drug release, are highly stable, and are more suitable for fisetin to improve therapeutic efficacy. Objectives The undertaken study aims to investigate the effect of cubosome-loaded fisetin in lung cancer with the following objectives 1) To formulate and characterize fisetin-loaded cubosome nanoparticles. 2) To evaluate anticancer activity in lung cancer in vitro and in vivo.
